Mycena subcyanocephala
Mushroom Identification
The Mycena subcyanocephala, a fascinating and rare find, has been spotted only eight times in the tropical regions of Taiwan! 🌏 Belonging to the Mycenaceae family and closely related to Mycena interrupta, this small yet intriguing species captivates with its tiny fruitbodies—only 1 mm tall!
Characterized by its tomentulose white cap with a blue color, it has thin-walled pileiocystidia and caulocystidia, along with smooth, round-headed cheilocystidia. The mushroom produces inamyloid basidiospores and features 2-spored basidia. As a lignicolous species, it thrives on decaying wood. 🌲
🍽️ Is it edible?
Mycena subcyanocephala may look enchanting, but it's not edible. It's far too small to be of culinary use and may contain muscarine, a toxic compound that can cause unpleasant symptoms.
🌈 Is it psychedelic?
Despite its otherworldly appearance, this mushroom has no known psychedelic effects. It doesn’t contain psilocybin and offers no mind-altering properties—just potential risks.
