Mycena subcyanocephala
Mushroom Identification
The Mycena subcyanocephala, a fascinating and rare find, has been spotted only eight times in the tropical regions of Taiwan! 🌏 Belonging to the Mycenaceae family and closely related to Mycena interrupta, this small yet intriguing species captivates with its tiny fruitbodies—only 1 mm tall!
Characterized by its tomentulose white cap with a blue color, it has thin-walled pileiocystidia and caulocystidia, along with smooth, round-headed cheilocystidia. The mushroom produces inamyloid basidiospores and features 2-spored basidia. As a lignicolous species, it thrives on decaying wood. 🌲
Known by its playful common name, the blue-underneath octopus mushroom, it’s a visual wonder but not for consumption—being neither edible nor psychedelic. This tiny gem is a treasure for mushroom enthusiasts! 🧑🔬🍂
